Summer means great weather, BBQs, and endless mosquito bites - but you can keep the bugs at bay with an all-natural bug spray!
You've seen the
reports about registered pesticides like DEET and Permethrin (you may have even seen the damage they can cause first hand, as I have seen with a plastic watch melted and ruined from bug spray containing DEET), both have been shown to cause nerve damage, create motor skill deficits, and learning and memory dysfunction.
I always like to say nature knows best. Why should I look to a laboratory-created chemical as a solution to a simple, centuries-old problem - bug deterrent?
The thing is I don't! I can turn to my handy essential oils to keep mosquitoes away this summer without the potentially toxic side effects of DEET and Permethrin.
All Natural Bug Spray Recipe
Here is my recipe against sand, deer and black flies, along with mosquitoes, ticks, and chiggers 🤢
Here's what you need:
- 2oz Spray bottle
- 15 drops Rosemary
- 10 drops Lemongrass
- 10 drops Arborvitae
- 10 drops Eucalyptus
- 1/2 bottle Terrashield
- water to fill the rest of the bottle
Add all the
ingredients to the bottle, shake, and you're good to go!
Yup, it's that simple! The best part is, you can absorb it into your skin without negative effects and reapply as often as you want (and not have to worry about the sticky, smelly mess of regular bug spray).
Bonus: Bug Bite Relief!
Found this recipe a little too late and need some big bite relief?
Just apply a mix of lavender and doTERRA's Purify to any new itchy bites and you'll quickly feel that itch disappear. I like to make a little roller ball mix of these two or just keep the rollerballs of each handy when I'm out!
